If you thought the current Ford Mustang lacked power and are hanging out for the revised, more powerful upcoming model then don’t read this. Ford has announced an epic Shelby GT500 model at the Detroit Auto Show with 522kW on tap.
To put that in perspective it will knock off the mantel held by Ford’s GT supercar, a car we drove last year in the USA. So, in effect we have on our hands the most powerful street legal Ford in history. A computer-generated video shown in Detroit tears off the covers of an original 1967 GT Shelby revealing aggressive body styling, track inspired vents, intakes and spoiler and most importantly the figure 700 HP+!
It will go on sale in the USA in 2019, whether a RHD version makes its way to Australia is unknown. The Mustang has been a raging success in Australia, in fact we are the largest market for the RHD model.
Ford is also offering Aussies the chance to “Take the ultimate Mustang road trip” over the Australia day long weekend. Over four days Ford is offering free test drives covering the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, the Northern Beaches in Sydney and Coolangatta in QLD.

But hurry there are only 380 test drives on offer. The promotion will also launch Ford 2nd Car, a test program for Ranger and Escape customers. The program will allow eligible buyers access to any Ford model for up to two weeks during their first two years of ownership. So, if you feel like a topless Mustang for a weekend getaway simply ask and you shall receive.
