Birdsville is a town around 700km north of Mt Isa, 1500km west of Brisbane and 1,100km from Alice Springs. It’s what many would call “the middle of nowhere”. Birdsville has a population of 115 which is rapidly expanded when the Big Red Bash music festival arrives between July 4th and 6th. For many who live in Birdsville, KFC is not easily accessed so the Colonel has brought the bird to them.

KFC has equipped a semi-trailer to carry more than just a portable restaurant but with a slide and equipment to open a mini festival within the Big Red Bash when it kicks off next week. Departing from Sydney on the 28th of June, the KFC truck will be taking the long journey to let people young and old experience the joy of chicken coated in the 11 herbs and spices.

At three times each day the KFC campus will serve FREE chicken to festival goers in an effort to openly allow people to experience the mmm of licking your fingers after devouring a piece of chicken. Annabel Fribence, Marketing Director for KFC said, “The Colonel’s inaugural Chicken Run is about one thing and one thing only. The unforgettable experience of tasting KFC’s Finger Lickin’ Good Chicken. For those who’ve gone without it for years, we’re hoping to remind them of their very first time. For those who’ve never had it before, we can’t wait to see their response.”

The scene is simple, boot scoot through some Lee Kerneghan, sing along to some Kate Cebrano and then nail a few pieces of the Colonel’s best.

For free KFC even we would consider the road trip to Birdsville.
