In the race for your mobile dollar there’s one heck of a battle going on and it’s not just the big three telcos. Amaysim and Woolworths have chimed in with outstanding offers for those looking to secure a Galaxy S8 or S8+
We’ve crunched the numbers. On this page are two tables listing every single telco plan we could find, and just what you’ll pay. We’re also looking at if it’s worth being on a contract for this phone.
Importantly, there’s one telco not listed below. Amaysim. Their strategy is new, and innovative. Amaysim are selling the phone outright, for the recommended retail prices of $1199 (for the S8) and $1349 (for the S8+). Why? To entice you to switch to Amaysim. When you buy the S8 through Amaysim you get three free recharges of any of their unlimited plans.
That means three months of up to $49.90 – which includes unlimited calls and texts, and 9GB of data. To put that in perspective, lets say you wanted 7GB of data. You pay $1199 for the phone, then if you stick with Amaysim for two years (which you don’t have to because you’re NOT locked into a contract) you’ll pay $39.90 per month for 21 months.
Do the math, that’s $2036.00 over 24 months. Have a look below, that’s about $220 less than Optus with 7GB and on par with Vodafone and Virgin on 8GB a month – but with the added bonus of complete flexibility in those two years. Interesting stuff.
Woolworths too are teasing the sign ups. Sign up to a two year contract with Woolies before April 4th and their 4GB plan is 15% off, making it by far and away the most competitive here.
There are two things to consider for you when you choose what to do next. How much data do you need? How much can you afford to pay? Consider the two tables below when making your decision.

I’ve added a column here for the “Tipping Point” . This is the cost over two years of the plan usage. If you subtract the cost of the phone from the two year commitment, what are you paying to be with that telco?
Could it be you’re better off paying up front, and finding a month to month or SIM Only plan with one of the big or small telcos out there. Most likely it is.
