It’s like we’ve gone back in time and the low-cost mobile phone plan wars are still on, in fact they are back on. After couple of years without serious competition firstly Kogan re-enters the race, now Boost have thrown out a pretty impressive new recharge offer.
The concept is pretty simple. You pay a set amount, and for that you get a set amount of data – right?
Well Boost seems to want to turn that on its head, and make things a bit more complex. But hey, if a bit of complexity offers added value – that’s a win for the consumer.
So as of now, for $40 you can recharge your Boost Mobile SIM with 30 days with of credit. Unlimited calls, Unlimited texts and 3GB of data.
That alone is competitive – but then they throw in 2GB of data every weekend.
From 9pm on Friday night until midnight on Sunday you can chew through an additional 2GB of data.
That means update all your software, download all your apps, stream away as you need.
One killer issue is monitoring the usage, you can’t rely on your phone’s usage meter, instead you really must get used to checking in on the Boost Mobile app.
Given we work during the week, connect to WiFi at work, and don’t have a lot of time left in the day, the weekend is probably for many the busiest time of the week for Mobile Data – perhaps Boost Mobile is on to something?
