When it comes to headphones there is just no questioning that we are spoilt for choice.  It seems every company with even the most tenuous links to audio is pumping out headphones or ear buds.  People who take audio seriously are hard markers so there’s many preferences for studio headphones, but one area that has a very clear niche carved out is travel, and there is one company who not only are world renowned for audio, but are the best in the business when it comes to “Active Noise Cancelling” the very thing every serious traveller wants.  Bose.

Bose call their flagship headphones “legendary” – they do so in reference to the hugely successful QC 15 headphones.  If you’re on a plane – particularly in business-class and someone near you has Bose headphones on – odds-on those are QC 15’s.

You only replace a model that successful when you’ve created something better.  The Quiet Comfort (QC) 25’s are just that.

Featuring an all-new design the 25’s offer an even better noise reduction and sound quality and even better portability.

“Out of the box” you get a simple travel case which allows you to fold up your headphones, store the airline seat adaptor and a spare AAA battery.  Amazingly, these things require just one AAA battery – one of which comes at purchase.

That single battery provides the greatest selling point for these headphones – 35 hours of use.  That’s around the world and back!

Plus, when the battery dies – play-through continues, you just lose the noise cancelling.  And if you’re at home or in a quiet area you can turn noise cancelling off at any time, however I find the sound rather dulled out without it on.  The noise cancelling technology really does improve the overall audio performance.

You’ll be hearing rich tone, without too much depth which for me is pretty spot on.

At $399 they aren’t an impulse purchase, however in that price range are a lot of different headphones.

The Bose QC 25’s are the ultimate headphones for travellers because of their outstanding quality, noise cancelling performance, battery life and importantly the feel on the head – they are light over the ears so you can easily wear them on any long-haul flight for the entire journey.
