With the pain of traffic in capital cities growing, you’d expect to see more and more motorbikes on the road. According to the latest sales figures, motorcycle sales are up, although that has come at the expense of scooter sales, apparently.
According to the latest figures from the FCAI, 25,526 new motorcycles, ATVs and scooters were sold in the first quarter of 2012. That number is 2,249 more than the same quarter last year.
Of those 25,000 odd bikes, ATVs, off-road and on-road bikes all saw significant gains, with road bikes in particular jumping 14.5 per cent to 9,985 units sold. Comparatively, scooter sales dropped 14 per cent to 2,711 units. There’s no explanation for the decrease in scooter sales over the quarter.
Of all bikes and ATVs sold, Honda was the most popular brand, selling 5731 units, followed by Yamaha and Suzuki with 4034 and 3010 units sold respectively.
