How important is price?  Very important, and despite a $100 increase on the price of the flagship P9 last year, Huawei are still more than competitive on price with the 2017 flagship the P10.

At $899 the Huawei P10 is still $200 cheaper than the cheapest possible Samsung S8 or iPhone 7. But it’s also then more expensive than some of the next level down phones from those same companies and many many others.

Available from May 25, this device should be Huawei’s best performer ever and with it’s big brother the P10 Plus hitting Australia too there will be no issue with choice.

Richard Yu, CEO of the Huawei Consumer Business Group, said: “With Huawei P10 and P10 Plus we have created a smartphone that revolutionises and redefines portrait photography. Thanks to the evolution of our partnership with Leica Camera users now have an incredible Leica front camera on their Huawei device in addition to the rear. To match this innovation inside, Huawei’s partnership with Pantone Color Institute ensures that the devices are equally as beautiful on the outside. The HUAWEI P10 and P10 Plus are smartphones that are as fashionable as they are functional.”

Yep, it’s all about the camera again. Using the second generation Leica camera system first seen in the larger Mate 9 device, this phone will blow your mind with its picture quality.  Very hard to challenge head to head for overall camera performance.

The Leica partnership is critical to Huawei standing out from the crowd in the smartphone camera race and as Oliver Kaltner, CEO Leica Camera explains this device is exceptional “Our partnership with Huawei allows us to demonstrate to millions of customers that amazing and professional imagery can be achieved on a smartphone and that our expertise in lenses and optics can help them achieve fantastic portraits. Huawei P10 and P10 Plus give users all the tools of an artistic portrait studio in their pocket, allowing them to achieve stunning results every time they take a shot.”

Optus, Virgin Mobile and Vodafone will offer the P10 on plans which should clearly work out cheaper than the plans for Samsung and Apple, which will help attract consumers.  Outright at selected retailers the P10 Plus will be $1099.
