What is a family car? That’s the toughest part of categorising all the vehicles available today and trying to pigeon-hole every one of them. In our mind, the modern family car is likely an SUV, and is big enough for a family of four and solid boot space.
Yep, lots of families want or need a seven-seater. But at the same time they aren’t cheap. Not at all. When I bought our Commodore Sportswagon in 2010 it was $36,000 or so – and I’m still feeling the pain of that financially six years later! So surely the average family if they’re looking for something new perhaps the low $30,000 mark is more in tune.
Take the Kia Sorrento – $45,000 starting price, great for a seven-seater – amazing even. But what if you don’t need the seven seats – pop on down to the Kia Sportage. This thing is packed with tech, modern as heck inside, great fit and finish and a stylish look.
On the road it’s no slouch. Great to drive, easy to get in and out of, easy to load with groceries or kids sports bags.
A family in Australia is on a tight budget, so when you consider just what’s possible with just $33,000 up – it’s our view that the Kia Sportage is the EFTM Best Family Car for 2016.
