Optus kicks off its Rio advertising with another Ian Thorpe video

he's loving taking the piss out of himself is Ian... nice work

Ian Thorpe may have five Olympic and ten Commonwealth Games Gold Medals, but he’s not short of a smile and seems willing to have a bit of fun in his own name as evident by his latest video campaign with Optus in the lead up to Rio.

The average Joe might not know, or even care that Telstra are not an Olympic Sponsor this year, instead Optus has stepped up to support the Aussie Olympic team through sponsorship and in turn promote themselves as a communication and entertainment choice for Australians.

Today they released a great fun video encouraging social media support messages for the Aussie Olympic Athletes using the hashtag #FanUpAUS – not too silly, not too serious, but a good fun video – I suspect we’re going to see a lot more of Thorpie and the ‘yes’ brand over the coming month.

There’s even a Lee Lin Chin cameo:)

The whole point – to get Aussies off their bums creating great messages of support for our Athletes

“It’s easy to forget that these athletes represent their country for the love of Australia and many of them are on the other side of the globe without friends or family.

“A simple photo or video can have a hugely positive impact on our athletes. These well wishes will serve as a timely reminder that the entire Australian population is behind them as they do their best to be successful in Rio” Ian said.
