TV Viewers in some of Australia’s biggest regional cities are confused this morning as they go to switch on The Today Show or tonight when they go to watch the news with channel numbers all over the place after a huge shift in the programming on the WIN and Southern Cross TV networks from July 1.
EFTM would love to help you find your channel – but wow this whole thing is confusing at a macro level to look at nationally, but for many it will be a whole lot easier at your local level.
So, if your question is “where do I find Channel 9 now?” or “Why is Channel 9 showing Channel 10 programs” and vice versa – the answer is actually quite simple.
The stations have swapped.
WIN TV is a huge regional operation which for ever and a day has been an affiliate of the Nine Network, showing Channel 9 programs on channel 8, 80 and other channels starting with 8.
Likewise, Southern Cross is a regional network that in some places shows content and programs from the Seven Network, but for the most part show Channel Ten content under then banner “Southern Cross Ten”. Those programs appear on Channel 5, 50 and other channels starting with 5.
From today, Nine Network programming in Regional Queensland, Victoria and Southern NSW will find the Today Show, Nine News, A Current Affair, The Voice and all those other Nine Network programs on channel 5.
If you’re looking for Masterchef, The Project and all the other Ten programs, look on Channel 8.
It’s confusing, but it’s just a straight swap.
There are a few markets still to announce what’s happening for all their channels but for the most part, it’s a straight swap between channel’s 8 and 5 in regional areas.
Importantly, Northern NSW areas covered by NBN (Newcastle’s TV network) which is in part owned by Nine Entertainment are not affected, their channels and content stay the same.
