Ford Australia are going out of local manufacturing with a bang – announcing this week that every single Ford built in Australia from April this year will come with Satellite Navigation as standard – that’s a pretty big call!

The last Falcon (FG X) and Territory MkII being manufactured in Broadmeadows will get Sat Nav as standard on all models alongside the Sync 2 infotainment system.

With Broadmeadows shutting down in October 2016, that’s 18 months of production with a feature that frankly should have been standard in cars for many years.  It’s essentially just a software option these days since big-screen infotainment systems became standard.

While the Falcon and Territory will be farewelled in 2016, this inclusion should be an indication of what will follow with imported models from 2017 onward.

Let’s also hope it’s a signal to other car-companies to get their act together on standard inclusions.
