Wow Factor: Novel, futuristic looks. Great interior with bold red leather seats. Typical Hyundai build quality. At this level the sound system is quite sophisticated and one of the best around.
Most Impressive: Sharp handling with suspension borrowed from the SR Turbo. Stands out from the pack.
Not so impressive: 1.6-litre produces only gentle acceleration; plastic paddle shifters are basically superfluous.
Early verdict: The base model Veloster now comes in designer jeans, an attractive proposition.
