This week we start a bit of a sports stint for vehicles coming into the EFTM Garage.  Check out this Ralliart sedan version of the Mitsubishi Lancer

Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Sedan

Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Sedan

Make: Mitsubishi

Model: Lancer

Variant: Ralliart Sedan

Engine / Transmission: AWD 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. 6-speed automatic ‘SST’ twin-clutch transmission.

Vital Stats: 177kW/343Nm.

RRP Price: $39,990 (Expect closer to $44,000 at the dealer)

Standard Features: Key-less entry and start, satellite navigation, voice activated Bluetooth, reversing camera, iPod connectivity, 7″ colour touch screen, steering wheel paddle shifters, alloy pedals, Ralliart ‘Wishknit’ seat trim, dusk sensing headlamps, rain sensing wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror, automatic retracting side mirrors, automatic climate control, Rockford Fosgate premium audio system including 9 speakers (4 speakers + 4 tweeters + 1 subwoofer, rear spoiler, fog lamps and privacy glass.

Safety highlights: Full suite of airbags including drivers knee airbag. ‘All Wheel Control System’ (AWC)

Wow Factor: Boy racer appeal. AWC system makes a novice look like a pro, particularly on dirt. Deceptively quick with raucous, screaming engine note.

Most Impressive: Under the bonnet is essentially a tame version of the rocket-like Evolution engine. The quick shifting twin clutch transmission is a real hoot to use via steering wheel paddle shifters. Hard to match stability and traction on any surface.

Not so impressive: Mitsubishi’s in general feel like they are a generation behind competitors. Cabin borders on cheap and the chassis just doesn’t feel all that solid. Fuel economy can see less than 400km’s per tank even without constant thrashing.

Early verdict: Dam fun, hot looks and sophisticated drivetrain. But is that enough?
