This week we’re behind the wheel of the mini SUV from Mitsubishi – the ASX – Is this just the smaller sibling to the Outlander and is it worth it – more on that later!

Mitsubishi ASX Aspire 2.2 DiD

Mitsubishi ASX Aspire 2.2 DiD

Make: Mitsubishi

Model: ASX

Variant: Aspire 2.2 DiD Diesel Automatic.

Standard Features: Three mode AWD, huge panoramic glass roof with showy ambient lighting, leather upholstery, dusk sensing headlamps, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, paddle gear shifters, satellite navigation, reversing camera, keyless entry, keyless start, dual zone air conditioning, iPod compatibility, USB audio input, Bluetooth audio streaming and automatic fold away side mirrors.

Wow Factor: Panoramic glass roof, frugal new diesel engine (we averaged 6.1). Three AWD modes. 2WD, 4WD Auto and 4WD lock which can be used at higher speeds.

Most Impressive: New auto adds an extra dimension to the range. Previously only a manual was offered on diesel models.

Not so impressive: Lifeless steering, coarse ride. Seats become quite uncomfortable after longer trips. Some parts of the cabin, particularly the upper dash feature lower quality plastics. Premium Rockford Fosgate audio is an option but standard on the larger Aspire Outlander.
