Want the ultimate home theatre in your home? Then you’re going to want to start saving. Sony has just launched its breathtaking 4K projector in Australia, with a price tag to put a huge dent in your wallet.

The VPL-VW1000ES projects a 4K image, which is four times the resolution of Full HD. Beaming an image up to 300 inches diagonally, the projector has a whopping 2000 ANSI-Lumens worth of brightness and a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

Of course, given Blu-ray only plays back 1080p, getting some 4K content to display on your new home theatre projector is going to be problematic. Or it would, if the Sony didn’t automatically upscale everything from SD to HD content to the 4K standard. It also beams in 3D if you’re into that kind of thing.

But the price… Well, given it’s the first consumer level 4K projector you can forgive the price tag, even if you can’t afford it. At $24,999, it’s one of the priciest ways to watch movies ever released.
