The Apple TV was always an awesome little media box, but it’s just gotten a lot better – where it could only handle 720p quality video, it has now been updated to support 1080p video playback.

In a world of Blu-ray and 1080p TVs, the update is long overdue, but that doesn’t make it any less welcome. While Apple is now offering movie rentals and purchases through Apple TV in Full HD, TV shows in Australia are still only available in standard definition.

Apple has also fixed up the user interface a bit to get rid of the copious amounts of text and turn it into a much more attractive icons. If you own an older Apple TV, you can get the new UI today.

But if you don’t own an Apple TV already, it’s well worth it. Especially given it only costs $109.
