Everybody loves Aussie motoring company Varley. What’s that? You’ve never heard of Varley? You know, the guys who make all those awesome little buggies you see pushing stuff around at the airport? Well, the company has decided to try its hand at an EV sports car. And it looks the goods.

Unveiled at the Australian Electric Vehicle Conference, the evR450 is pretty much the exact opposite of every other vehicle the company has ever done. Shown off in bright yellow with butterfly doors, the evR450 will apparantly shoot from 0-100 in 3.8 seconds, and has a range of 150km, which will be expandable to 300km with an optional extra battery pack. Top speeds will hit about 200kph, with the whole package looking at selling for less than $200,000.

Of course, it’s still early days for the vehicle, so the folks at Varley are keeping all the important facts close to their chests – nobody’s taken it for a test drive yet, or sneaked a peak under the hood. That said, the company says it should have more details about the car when it officially launches in January.

There’s a lot of momentum in the EV space at the moment, and with pretty much every major motoring company falling over itself trying to launch electric vehicles, having an Aussie-made option in the high end is a great step for the local industry. Let’s hope it’s the start of something bigger from Varley in the local EV space.
